Quan Ventures’ Sale of Two Holdings Return Most of Fund Capital
Geneva, Switzerland – January 24, 2006 – Quan Ventures II had two profitable exits recently that alone amounted to 77% of investors’ capital.
On December 30th, Cyota was sold to RSA Security for $145 million in cash, representing a 3.5x return. Cyota is a leading provider of on-line transaction authentication and anti-fraud solutions to major banks worldwide.
On January 17th, Quan Ventures II closed on the sale of its Alien Technology shares to an existing Alien investor. The transaction provided a 2.1x cash return. In addition, Limited Partners who co-invested in Alien were included in the transaction, providing them returns of 1.2x to 1.3x their total investment just from Cyota and Alien proceeds. Alien is a major provider of radio frequency identification (RFID) chips and readers, primarily serving the supply chain market.
Quan Ventures II was formed and began investing at the peak of the stock market in 2000. Quan II’s cash-on-cash return to date ranks in the top decile of all vintage 2000 VC funds in both Europe and the US, according to Venture Economics’ latest-available data (Quan Ventures I, a vintage 1996 fund, had a 6x cash-on-cash return, and was also very highly ranked amongst its peers).

In 2006, Quan will begin marketing Quan Ventures III to institutional investors. The General Partner has provided visibility by seeding Quan Ventures III with attractive investments.
