Robert Kalman began working with Quan Ventures as an Advisor in 2000 and subsequently became a Venture Partner. His areas of investment focus are photonics and networks. Rob brings over 20 years of engineering, marketing and management experience in the telecom/datacom equipment and photonics industries. Rob was a founder of Luminous Networks, a provider of packet-centric telecom systems, holding positions including VP of Hardware Engineering and Senior Director of Marketing. He was also a founder of ONI Systems (acquired by Ciena), a leading wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) transmission equipment company, where he managed teams developing WDM switching subsystems. He has provided consulting services in wireless networking and network security. Rob holds PhD and MS degrees in Electrical Engineering (EE) from Stanford University, and a BS degree in EE from UC Berkeley.
